About the Design
Colors
The main color scheme was a greyscale background with red thrown in throughout. Due to the larger quantity of photos used on the site, color was avoided as a heavy use in the layout so not to overwhelm the page with color when high quality images are present.
Layout
Layout is a standard design style with a simple background shade creating a container center with similar contrasts. White is used as the standard content area; this is employed to draw a users eyes to the center content area and provide specific focus to anything in this location. Design is professional style with simple apparatus.
Customization
Banner is custom designed, utilizing a fading effect on a research photo. Furthermore, the left-hand navigation is set to change when moused over through custom javascript, and a php script running on the home page cycles important research projects or highlight images as choosen by the user. The script is user friendly, reading any images located in a specific directory, formatting them, and displaying them in the slideshow seen.
